ToggleWHAT HAPPENED?
According to a report from , Aston Villa are targeting Espanyol goalkeeper Garcia this summer, who has also been on the radar of La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona. Head coach Unai Emery is reportedly frustrated with Martinez’s form, especially after his costly error against PSG in the Champions League quarter-finals.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Villa sporting director Pablo Monchi was spotted in the stands of La Ceramica on Sunday afternoon to watch Garcia as Espanyol lost 1-0 to Emery's former employers Villarreal. The Villans are ready to pay Garcia's release clause, which is worth €25 million (£21m). The Premier League outfit are said to consider Martinez's time between the sticks at Villa Park to be over, both due to his age – he turns 33 in September – as well as his below-par displays.

DID YOU KNOW?
Garcia's release clause is subject to change, depending on a number of factors. If the 23-year-old is called up for the Spanish national team, his exit clause will increase to €30m (£26m), whereas Espanyol's relegation would see it drop to just €15m (£13m). However, the possibility of the latter is low, given that Los Periquitos are seven points above the drop zone in 13th place.

WHAT NEXT FOR JOAN GARCIA?
The Spanish goalkeeper has been arguably the best shot-stopper in La Liga this season. He has both the highest save percentage and saves per 90 figures in the Spanish top-flight, and with a move to a bigger club beckoning this summer, Garcia will be keen to finish the season on a high. He will next be seen in action on Sunday, May 4, against Real Betis.
